Today, we are experiencing an increase in racial incidents, as well as, increased verbal assaults on Black youth in predominantly white schools and neighborhoods.
ReplyDeleteIt is not "open season" on American citizens who are Black!
Yet, we see more and more of this negative behavior on the part on non-Blacks in our neighborhoods.
Subtle racism is not so subtle anymore.
As citizens and advocates for justice and fairness in our society, we must be heard in all the halls and forums of public discussion on how it can change. And those places should be filled with adults and the parents of the youth who are engaging in this negative behavior.
Rockford has had a history of alledged police brutality in the African American Community and nothing has been done to try and alleivate the tension. This incident has brought to the fore front the reality of these issues.
ReplyDeleteRockford Police Shooting March
ReplyDelete200 plus people had a march to call attention to the issues and relationship between the African American community and the police department.
Two Rockford, Illinois police officers shot a killed a 23 year-0ld African American youth in a Church that has a daycare. The police department had no regard for the house of worship, the infants, children and daycare workers. Apparently the victim was wanted for a domestic violence. The police reported erronous information to the public about a weapon being involved.
Both of the involved officers had prior shooting on their records. One of the officers was once employed partime by a school in the Rockford area.
If the city mayor and the police chief would have told the truth in the very beginning whould this have gone thus far?
ReplyDeleteproblem is that the racial divide is there, but people don't want to believe that it IS on their door step, and will take them to make the change.
ReplyDeleteWe should put pressure on the people we elect to represent all the people. If they do not speak for all the people in the community then we need to come together and have them voted out of office.
ReplyDeleteThis communite should unite and come together for all citizens in this county and state.
ReplyDeleteAmerica is becoming a polorized place where people can put a value on the lifes of certain people. We should realize that all people are human beings and should be treated as such.
ReplyDeleteIt appears that the police department and the community could benefit from diversity training that will help them understand the culture of all the citens in this citizen.
ReplyDeleteSince the incident with the police killing, it has become evident that racism is live and well.
ReplyDeleteThis incident also brought to the surface about how some in the Rockford community Generalize about some citizens. Some are quick to say that a person/ especially a Africian is guilty before due process.
ReplyDeleteThe Black community with the help of the White community must step up and try to ensure that all citizens are afforded the best education and given opportunites that will help us make this a better place to live.
ReplyDeleteWe have work to do in this community. We need everyone who believe that "that no Justice = no peace." Please join us in Marching on Sept. 12, 2009 for jobs, better educations and ,for justice for all.
ReplyDeleteThe challange is for each of us to work on improving life for those living in our community.
ReplyDeleteThis sound like our town of Monmouth Il.Cops run and rule.Pick who goes to jail and make young kids lie to press charges.at least you got help we are still waiting for someone to contact us its been over a yr. I guess someone have to die or cut in line to get help from our own kind.
ReplyDeletethe naacp should have been in the rockford area about 5 years ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!
